Gmail does an excellent job of blocking most junk mail because it learns from all Gmail users across the world. If anything gets past the spam filter, don’t just delete it, click the Report Spam button at the top of the email message. This teaches Gmail how to identify certain kinds of recurring spam so that they do not continue to show up in your inbox.
You do not need to configure Gmail’s spam filter.
