About ActiveSync

If you are really determined, you can sync your Windows Mobile manually using ActiveSync on your desktop or laptop. However, manual syncing is unreliable—it will corrupt your data sooner or later, and it only works well with two devices. Back up often, and consider using hosted Exchange instead.

Install the Right Version of ActiveSync

  • If ActiveSync is not yet installed on your computer, set it up now.
    • For Pocket PC or Windows Mobile 5, we usually recommend using the installation CD that came with your handlheld. Many devices work best with the precise ActiveSync version they shipped with. Follow the installation instructions provided on that CD.
    • For Windows Mobile 6 or later (or if your old ActiveSync gives you grief), download the latest version that supports your device. See: https://www.microsoft.com/windowsphone/en-us/howto/wp6/sync/installing-activesync.aspx.
  • Syncing Manually with ActiveSync

Once ActiveSync is installed, sync your mobile device as follows:

    1. Connect your mobile device to your computer via the supplied USB cable.
    2. If syncing does not start automatically, click the green ActiveSync icon in your desk tray (or in All Programs) and select the option to Synchronize.
